Poetry Contest: My Hope for 2021

The inaugural Firehouse Poetry Contest will be held from January 28 until March 1, 2021. In the spirit of Amanda Gorman’s inaugural poem, “The Hill We Climb,” poets are encouraged to write on the theme of “My Hope for 2021.” Poems may be formal or free verse (any style accepted), but poems must be under 50 lines.

Details:

• There is a $5 entry fee per poem.
• There are no limits on the number of submissions participants can enter.
• Winners will be announced during National Poetry Month, April 2021.
• Entries will be judged by Florida Poet John Davis Jr. (author of Middle Class American Proverb and Hard Inheritance).
• Entries should not contain the entrant’s name or identifying information.
• Poems may be sent as attachments or in the body of an email to: email hidden; JavaScript is required between January 28 and March 1.
• Entry fees will be accepted on the Firehouse Cultural Center website, firehouseculturalcenter.org, using PayPal (see below for online payment).
• Poems arriving after deadline or that do not observe contest rules will be disqualified.
• First prize winners will receive $50.
• There are three categories of Middle School, High School and Adult.
• Poems may be formal or free verse (any style accepted), but poems must be under 50 lines.
• Poets are encouraged to write on the theme of “My Hope for 2021.”
