You’ll discover the joy of working with clay in this hands-on, beginner to intermediate course focused on the fundamentals of wheel throwing. In 5 weeks, you'll learn how to center clay, pull walls, and shape basic forms like bowls, mugs, and cylinders. We'll also cover trimming, surface decoration, and glazing techniques so you can finish and fire your own unique pieces. No experience necessary – just bring your curiosity and willingness to get your hands dirty! Includes 25 lbs. of clay, glaze and firing.

Welcome to our Open Pottery Studio – a supervised, creative space where potters of all skill levels can explore, practice, and perfect their craft. This monitored environment ensures safety and support while offering access to professional-grade tools, wheels, and kilns. Whether you are hand-building, throwing, or glazing, our staff is available during all open studio hours to assist, answer questions, and maintain a safe, respectful studio atmosphere. Must have class experience to attend. Thursdays: 9:30 am – Noon, Adults. 4 session fee, each day is it’s own session. Book January 2026 - December 2026.

Back at the Firehouse in the New Year, the Memphis Rub Band is a 4-piece band from Florida's Suncoast area. They perform a blend of blues and rock with a bit of R&B and funk mixed in. Come out and see The Memphis Rub Band, a dynamic group, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 7:30 pm.

Adults 55+ | Beginner-Intermediate Level | with Mary Gail Russ. Be inspired by artists Mark Bradford and Charles Atlas while learning the art of fabric weaving. Using paper, fabric and thread students will warp and weft their way to unique tapestry designs that include a phone bag, wall hanging, coil basket, and greeting cards. Don’t miss this fun 6 weeks of unconventional weaving on and off the loom.

Hot Spot Quarterly Report – Winter 2018

As reported in the fall issue, Firehouse Cultural Center has purchased a 1600 square foot building on land adjacent to our current property in Ruskin. We are happy to announce fundraising efforts are in full swing, and that the community is showing great support for this massive undertaking.

We are very pleased to announce that FCC is one of the six finalists in the 2018 WEDU-PBS Be More Awards, Be More Category! We are thrilled to receive such high praise for our 2017 Summer Camp “Imagine, Explore, Discover” program. Be sure to keep an eye out for information about our upcoming 2018 Summer Camp program which promises to be the best FCC camp for kids EVAH!!!!

The year 2017 closed at the Firehouse with a dizzying array of events. Guests included everyone from Santa Claus to Opera Tampa to British Videographer Vivien Morgan to artists from Peru to the Pelican Players’ funny and heartbreaking stage performance of Love Letters. Not to mention all of the music our Pub delivered! Musical magic from blues great T-Bone and the All Stars, songstress Valerie Gillespie and her Jazz Ensemble, Ken Loomer’s Big Band, and James Suggs Quartet —to name just a few.
But now it’s time to welcome the New Year …
