This monitored environment ensures safety and support while offering access to professional-grade tools, wheels, and kilns. Whether you are hand-building, throwing, or glazing, our staff is available during all open studio hours to assist, answer questions, and maintain a safe, respectful studio atmosphere. Girl's Night Out: Headliner Helen Keaney with friends Larry Venturino and Trish Keating. Helen Keaney began her career in New York City where she honed her comedy skills at The Boston Comedy Club and The Comic Strip. She caught the attention of television executives, landing a job co-hosting "Short Attention Span Theater" on Comedy Central. Larry regularly performs at clubs, theaters, and private events across the country. Trish is a stand-up comedian, teacher, actor and crazy Aunt! Seen on NBC, FOX, HSN and CBS.

Teen Pottery Class – 3-Session Series (Ages 12 - 16). Session Length: 1 1/2 hours per session. 3 Fridays in October. Get your hands dirty and your creativity flowing in this fun and interactive 3-session pottery series designed just for teens! In this beginner-friendly class, young artists will explore the basics of working with clay through hand-building techniques and get an introduction to the pottery wheel. Create multiple works of art. All materials, tools, and kiln firings are included.
INTRODUCTION TO CLAY! Learn about basic clay types, tools, and techniques. Hand-build a piece using techniques like pinching or slab work. Form Your Piece: Shape your item with help from an instructor. Don’t worry about perfection—the charm is in the handmade feel. Surface decoration techniques like textures or carving & glazing.

Firehouse Cultural Center welcomes new Executive Director, Georgia Vahue
/in People /by Elaine SimmonsGeorgia was most recently Director of Education and Gallery Programs at Great Necks Art Center, Long Island New York. She is a Fulbright Fellow, a Certified Teacher of K – 12 Art and Gifted and Talented Education with 12 years of teaching experience in Florida, London and New York. She was for seven years the Arts Educator here at Wimauma Elementary. She graduated from the University of South Florida, College of Fine Arts and attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Maine.
Her many accomplishments comprise: working with numerous curators including internationally known artist James Rosenquist and Ned Rifkin, Under Secretary of Art, Smithsonian Institution and former Director of Atlanta’s High Museum; published arts articles and arts education curricula; and The University of Georgia, Atlanta, recognizes her as a “Southern Scholar on Women.”
In addition to her arts administration, teaching and curatorial experience, Georgia brings to the Firehouse significant experience in gallery and business administration and marketing. She has curated and contributed to numerous art exhibitions from Florida to New York as well as participated as a guest juror, and lecturer at State, National and International venues.
