The War of the Worlds

Friday, October 25, 2013, 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Location: Firehouse Cultural Center

Event type: Firehouse Theater

On Sunday, October 30, 1938, millions of radio listeners were shocked when radio news alerts announced the arrival of Martians. They panicked when they learned of the Martians’ ferocious and seemingly unstoppable attack on Earth. Many ran out of their homes screaming while others packed up their cars and fled.

Though what the radio listeners heard was a portion of Orson Welles’ adaptation of the well-known book, War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, many of the listeners believed what they heard on the radio was real.

On Friday, October 25, 2013, we will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the original Mercury Radio Theater broadcast as MAS Community Theatre presents a staged production of the broadcast of Howard Knoch’s adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds at the Ruskin Firehouse Cultural Center on October 25.

Actors will portray the original 1938 broadcast of the The War of the Worlds in the style of period broadcasting. Directed by Ric Solerto-Brown. This will mark the first time MAS Community Theatre has toured a show in the Bay Area.
