POETRY WORKSHOP: Gothic Poetry
Saturday, October 26, 2019, 9:30 am – 11:00 am
Location: Firehouse Cultural Center
Event type: Lectures
In the workshop, John takes participants through some poems (both old and new) that have creepy, mysterious, or downright scary elements. Then participants produce some “haunted” poetry of their own.
We will discuss the master: Edgar Allan Poe. Other poets whose work qualifies as Gothic will be introduced and discussed before we write our own pieces.
Lecturer Bio: John Davis Jr. is a seventh-generation Floridian whose poetry has been published in dozens of literary venues internationally. His poems have been repeatedly nominated for the Pushcart Prize and other laurels, and his books, Middle Class American Proverb (Negative Capability Press, 2014) and Hard Inheritance (Five Oaks Press, 2016) have also been critically acclaimed. He teaches English, Literature, and Creative Writing for colleges in the Tampa Bay Area, and resides in Riverview.
