Free Film Screening: River is Boss

Location: Firehouse Cultural Center
Event type: Lectures
Tim Kennedy, Professor Emeritus in the Communication Department at the University of Tampa will be screening his film RIVER IS BOSS October 15 at 7:pm.
RIVER IS BOSS provides a rare insight into the lives of Yup’ik villagers who live in the Lower Yukon village of Emmonak during a dramatic spring ice break-up flood. The film was a gift from Kennedy after he spent three years working with the villagers in the SKYRIVER program that used film and video as tools to strengthen the participation of rural Alaskan native villagers in the State of Alaskan government decision making process.
Tim Kennedy was the Founder/Director of the SKYRIVER Program and Program Producer of the National Film Board of Canada’s Challenge for Change program. A 60 country bibliographic study commissioned by UNESCO, Paris concluded that both programs were “classic models…for “Voice of the People” use of video (and film).”
