Theresa Villani: Fairy Tales & Humorous Songs

A completely unique program conceived and developed by cellist Theresa Villani has as its base a new take on a beloved and enduring “fairy tale” and groups of songs and other works to keep you smiling and laughing. Tenor Jerry Arnold, cellist Theresa Villani, and pianist/composer Colleen Schmitt combine their forces of musical virtuosity and dramatic flair to offer an electric-energy program you will not soon forget.

The fairy tale is the enchanting Alice a Cabaret by Semour Barab who has been described as a composer of “ impish opera”. Alice is a whimsical version of the famous Lewis Carroll stories presented in European cabaret-style as “spoken songs” with the melody delegated to the cello or piano. Tenor Jerry Arnold delightfully heightens the effect of this work through his comedic actor’s devices.
